The emperor is yin water.

The yin and yang water are drawing from each other, competing to feed the yin wood who gets a bit suffocated - not able to handle yin and yang water streaming in at the same time. Thank heavens for the fire in the snake and the sheep lets soak it all up by drawing out the qi of the wood.

It is again all influenced by the double hours and the hour of the horse will be a key time.

Use it if you can my friend - but it will be really transient.

The monkey and the dragon are good for water and the snake tries to combine with the monkey to also form water - he is pipped at the post as the combination with the dragon is supported by the emperor.

The snake therefore stays as his original energy - fire and is unable to cope with the strong water.

The metal of the monkey is overwhelmed by the fire of the snake - take care on the road mes amis.

The Dog and the Dragon clash. The snake remains as fire and feeds the earth in the dog and the dragon. The emperor is therefore weak as he is flowing out to support the earth branches.

The results of the French Election were almost predictable. I will share a little below. If you have missed it here is a link to the Guardian article.

Sarkosy is a yin earth man, sitting over the ox. He is a yang wood horse, and in 2011 he shifted into his 6th luck pillar which brings a clash to his month and to his day pillar - called clash to house of spouse. He became ever more unpopular last year and suffered a severe collapse in popularity.

The most significant shift takes place in Feb 2012 when the yang water sitting over the dragon combines with his yin fire in his month stem. It combines to form wood. The pig in his hour pillar combines to form wood with the sheep in his luck pillar and suddenly he is no longer a strong earth man but a surrender to the dominant flow of wood which damages his resources. In other words, come the revolution - no come the new luck pillar in 2011 out he goes. I will write an article in coming months about the very sudden switch that takes place in politicians fortunes when their luck pillars change.

There is an inherent trend to metal but no supporting stem to help it transform. This is kind of like having an ache that you just can't identify. It feels dense and intense. It is likely to translate into people getting very snitchy and nasty - speaking their mind when in fact they should be keeping their mouth zipped. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that people actually need to hear the truth and certainly not from you. Keeping your own counsel is very useful today.

Again their is a faint echo of metal which just cannot be expressed. There is a dense thick energy provided by the earth branches - still it cannot be expressed.

We have a conflict situation with the dog clashing the dragon and the wood which is strong because of the water trying to break up the earth. All very tense and dense. Stay aloof from this energy - stay within your centre and just observe the energies that surround you.

Wow who got bitten by that trojan bug?

To cap off a glorious week of tai qi (Tai Ji) in the gardens with the families - kids, mums, dads, flowers, sunshine on Thursday I got struck down with that VERY nasty trojan virus Blacole + McAfee - devastated my computer and found have to do a big reinstall, change all passwords etc. Make sure your system is SAFE!

BTW all you people with Macs who think you are immune - no, no, no - they are making them just for you too AND linux based systems.

The flow is to water with the water able to support the wood (in fact it is over support for the wood and it is all washed away into the ocean).

The theme for today is about being swept away by our emotions - about being washed out to sea by the force of strong emotions. We need to learn to moderate those huge flows so that we do not exhaust our supply of qi.

The monkey is metal and a travel sign - today he is converted into water so the emotional flow is hard work for some. If you can download a good meditation to keep you grounded and focused. The emperor is able to recruit the yang wood and turn him into earth being fed by the dragon. Then we will hear the choir of angels - not quite coming for the carry us home.

Tune your intuition and still your heart to hear what the true pattern is that sits there.

The emperor is supported and uplifted by the earth creatures sitting beneath him. He might actually find it difficult to extract the benefit but he is helped by the presence of yang wood in the month stem.

If you like earth or metal then today will be beneficial for you although it might be difficult to see what benefit might accrue until a little while down the track. Look for the sparkle to brighten up your life.

If you find yourself building up a head of steam over something (usually trivial) then go out and move that body of yours. Do something to flow with the energy of the day. It is a restless day with 2 clashes between the horse and the rabbit, and the rabbit and the dragon. Time to keep your head down.

If you have an unattached tiger in your chart it will be an interesting time with the tiger being torn to combine with the dragon and rabbit (mitigating the clash), BUT it will be also drawn to combine with the horse. The wood will win out as it is supported more directly by the water and has the emperor on its team.

We have two forces at play here. The yang water, yang wood and the pig are lined up on one side and the yin earth and the two dragons on the other side. Which becomes dominant or wins the hand - the one who successfully recruits the energies of the double hours.

For example, in the hour of the sheep and the rabbit the pig becomes wood. In the hours of the rat and the monkey the dragons become water. If you are intimate with your chart and need a boost then go with the double hours that support you the most.

4th April Mercury goes direct and Mars goes direct 14th - some of the tensions will be released. Has it seemed a bit like last year for you? A bit tricky, a bit unpredictable, a bit difficult to get technology to work for you. I had a brand new tablet glass cover crack in the direct sunlight - not enough to do damage I though - WRONG!

Tues 27th March - yang earth horse - poor rabbit in the middle

Ask yourself does this person need to hear what I am about to say - will it contribute to the accumulation of greater merit in the great big world.

Water can be about the depths of psychological breakthroughs. BUT without a mindfulness based practice it is impossible to maintain perspective. Get some help if deep things surface for you.

The emperor is in competition with his near neighbour the month pillar - stealing off each others plate.

The pig and the rabbit combine to bring about a wood transformation. The water is useful although a bit overwhelming - threatening to carry off the wood.

If you are traveling today and wood is good for you then your plans will run smoothly.

As with the whole of this month with the yin and yang water sitting besides each other today is pretty similar. A time for reflecting on our inner values, our inner knowledge and accessing the wisdom within.

Dragon and Rabbit clash

We return to focus on the wood clash between the dragon and the rabbit - the path of right action is again in focus.

Tues 20th March - yang metal dragon

the dragons and the rabbit are in clash. As the rabbit is pure qi - the dragons have yin wood buried in them the clash is significant. If you are finding it difficult to see the wood for the trees or the trees for the dragons it is completely understandable. Not everything is clear. There is a clash of the Titans taking place.

Wood is very strong but being clashed - I would say make sure that you only say what you mean to say, if your tongue moves unconnected to your mind then bind your mouth shut. No good is served by saying what is on your mind because it will only hurt.

The lesson for today is about who to support - which energy is uppermost - well today we can only tell that when we look at the double hours - so the time of day will be vital to our experience of the flow.

I think it is a day to phone a friend - to get more information before making decisions and to constantly review our own energy system. Am I strong or weak - am I flowing in or flowing out.

The year stem is yang water and the month stem is yin water - it is a collision of waters - one ocean meeting another and the puddle in between is paled into insignificance. No matter what is happening in the branches the stems SHOUT - we are water and we are competing for the universal attention.

The horse is fire but is NO match for the water - the water washes away the wood and the earth. Emotional states will be in flood. Ensure that if you go caving into your own depths that you take a life line with you - too much introspection leads to severe trauma.

Friday - 23rd March - yin water sheep - rivalry

The sheep and the rabbit like to play together combining to form wood.

The rivalry is drawn off and the day is saved.

Be judicious about the causes you support - if it feels like the flow is wrong then it is. Spend time thinking and feeling before acting - note the order. Many of us are governed by our feelings and don't apply the flashlight of mindful thinking to situations.

The emperor is fully surrounded by resources. The dragon and the monkey combine to form water. It is definitely a soggy and foggy day.

Go and plant some vegetables to nurture and nourish you through the winter / summer months (depending on your hemisphere).

There is a hidden flow to metal. Metal threatens wood but is drained by water. The emperor is strong.

It is suggested that no significant actions take place today - postpone any legal matters or administrative matters if possible otherwise make sure that you use a supportive hour in which to make these transactions.

It is on this day in 44 BC that the other JC met his death. Julius Ceasar that is - again through betrayal and collusion - an interesting pattern for us all to reflect upon.

We can never see the whole elephant and should always bear that in mind.

Power is about one's career, one's ability to control oneself and to manage others. Some people opt for oppression and dominance, others opt for coaching, mentoring and up-skilling of others - always a choice we can make.

The emperor is yang water.

He is surrounded by his mates - all looking and acting the same as him.

His lieutenant the rat combines with the dragon to form water - wow - overwhelm.

If you do not like water then avoid fishing or swimming today - they are not auspicious activities. Not many people can cope with that amount of water. Make sure that you stay warm, that you nurture your liver and gallbladder and, if you have weak fire ensure that you stay calm and do not erupt (the best course of action anyway).

Wed 22nd Feb: yin water ox

The emperor is yin water.

The energy is very cold. In the northern hemisphere you can expect ice and other water related events.

The flow is still to water but the yin water has two competitors.

The stems are mostly earth but the earth is different polarities. The wood in the tiger can draw off some of the excess water but the water is pretty overwhelming.

The way to deal with competition is to give the competitors something to do. Kind of like quarreling children - give them a task that brings them together and they start to act positively. The answer here is in strengthening wood.

Wood related things are - planting trees, being amongst trees, cultivating the land and one's mind. Don't get caught in the right or wrong of things. Wood is damaged by getting on one's high horse about justice and injustice - things play out with or without our championing them.

The fire and the water would like to combine to form wood - and with the tiger being the head of spring the transformation is possible. As there is a second water in the mix there is a fight to combine - this is not auspicious.

In addition the snake clashes with the tiger - so there has to be a travel alert today. This means that people are likely to be speeding and create danger for others on the road - you be safe by traveling with awareness (the way we should always be on the road).

The lesson is about competition, and when something comes along to drain your competitors it means you are able to make use of the universal flow of water to help you progress your plans - so long as this is useful to you.

In the hour of the rabbit the story is very different as suddenly the emperor is very strong, the competitor is taken away as it teams up with the emperor to form the strong season of wood. All are drawn up into the arms of the emperor.

Can you use it - ah that is the question. The lesson is about the liver and gallbladder and keeping the emotions in check. When anger and resentment rule us we lack wisdom, decisions made in the absence of wisdom are flawed.

The emperor is reasonably strong, except for the dragon - the dragon draws all of the force or flow from the emperor.

If you need prosperous fire, you might find you personal qi dropping if you are not aware of the universal flow. Guard against the emotional excesses of fire and earth. Manage your personal qi flow. The emperor is yin fire.

The flow is very changeable today. It is definitely going to be heavily impacted by the double hours.

The hour of the fire sheep (1300 - 1500) will be very significant. If you don't like wood then take a siesta at this time, making sure that you do not leave the back of your neck exposed.

There is a very strong trend to wood (with lots of energy tied up in the stems). Again, in the hour of the rabbit (o300 - 0500) there will be another strong trend, and again in the hour of the pig (2100 - 2300).

Wood is about birth, about re-birth and about great and righteous action(s).

Earth controls water - the trend is definitely a weak emperor who is unable to control his wealth. He needs to fully surrender (needing the presence of metal) to benefit from the wealth in the universal energy flows today.

Just because you have some or a lot of wealth in your chart it does not mean that you can use it - it might just slip through your fingers constantly. There is great strength in surrender. I am developing a series of articles for the 2012 bi-monthly newsletters which will highlight some of the emotional connections between the I Ching, The Tao De Ching and Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology.

Sat 18th Feb: yin earth rooster

When a pillar is replicated it is considered a time for reflection and for planning rather than action. If one of the pillars in your own chart match this then it is doubly important to stop still for 24 hours and watch the pattern unfolding.

There is a clash between the dog and the annual energy of the dragon. Watch out if your front door faces the direction of the dragon. The direction of the dog is also under pressure today. In addition it is the mid-point of the month.

There is metaphoric steam in the air. Be assured you will NOT be able to read the true energy of the day. Therefore - reflect carefully on your actions. Sometimes it is useful to phone a friend, get a second opinion. However it is important not to phone many friends. We can get overwhelmed when we get contradictory advice. Don't forget to phone home too - there is much collective wisdom to be gained from our intimate relationships.

Welcome to the year of the water dragon - willful, optimistic, competitive and thoroughly charming.

Exit Rabbit

Well aren't we all so glad that we can see the back of that rabbit!

Did you notice how many sex scandals (valid or invalid - proved or unproved) there were in 2011 - typical of the rabbit - things hidden are revealed. Things buried come to the surface including the push for democracy. Unfortunately I do not think we know what is real that sits underneath these world events. Perhaps in the year of the dragon where things are much more out in the open, some of the world wide political upheavals will be seen for what they are.

Enter Dragon

Dragons are inspiring, awesome, committed, engaging, lively with a large energy resource. They will usually see off all competitors as they are highly competitive and like to be noticed.

They can be thoughtful and generous friends and companions but can become frustrated with others when they are not up to speed.

Dragons are regarded as lucky - but traditionally Chinese men feared Dragon and Tiger ladies (probably because they know their own minds and would be more inclined to rebel against old fashioned strictures).

The Water

Water is the communicator. It seeks to fill in spaces, it seeks the lowest ground and fills spaces easily. It is the stuff that sustains life in utero, in the cellular structure and allows cells to communicate with each other.

It is about communication, transport, wisdom, philosophy, teaching and deep reflection.

The Cycle

Every year one of the heavenly stems and one of the earthly branches come together to form the dominant energy for the year. 2012 is the year when water (stem) meets dragon (earth). They are yang water and yang earth. The dragon has some surprises hidden below the surface. They cycle together in a 60 year / monthly /daily / double hourly cycles.

2012 will see the repetition of the same cycle we saw in 1952. We can look to history to work out what we could see in 2012. I am not going to look at the historical scene - we can learn things from it but we can also create our own reality so lets look at what the various seasons might bring us. This is very important as the dragon sits between seasons so will influence or be influenced by the season it finds itself in.

Some well known water dragons are:

Liam Neeson; Steven Seagal; Christopher Reeve; Isobella Rossellini; Roberto Begnini; Colin Friels; Wendy Hughes; Douglas Adams.

I will talk on the podcast about several of these people - their characteristics are VERY consistent with the passion and commitment of dragons.

Current Projects

I have 5 fabulous projects underway, doing what I absolutely love - working with wonderful clients, talented architects and building homes which have as their major focus sustainability and energy neutral or reduced energy footprints. One of those projects is at Lauderdale, one is at Huonville, one is South Arm and one is a renovation at South Hobart.

My Lauderdale clients are quite happy for us to document the process so I will be posting links to their project called Asante.

The other project will probably be at Taroona but it is several years off, we are just in the chatting and what if stage - the dream forming stage.

The Podcast

The podcast will add another dimension to the annual newsletter. I will be interviewed by an American woman with whom I have had a long correspondence. She is a professional TV host and will add a bit of fun and pzazz to this year's offering.

I will explore the characteristics of the dragon and the water sitting over the earth.

I will then examine the charts of Nicholas Sarkozy; Angela Merkel; Barack Obama; Julia Gillard (for a little local flavour). I will then look at the charts of two famous Water Dragons - Steven Seagal and Douglas Adams.

The seasons

Season of Wood

Feb – April is the season of wood. In the season of wood the dragon is at home. He is the end point of the season of wood, wood is therefore prosperous. There is water buried in the dragon, so the wood thrives but it is a little damp. The month of April will be warmer. In the northern hemisphere there will be a cold damp spring with real warmth only revealing itself in April. In the southern hemisphere there will be a sudden return of heat, just when we think winter is coming upon us.

Season of Fire

May – July is the season of fire. The dragon is at his most productive in the season of fire. He receives chi from the season of fire. The stems are wood and fire in this season and some hidden water helps the wood grow, the ardour of the fire is dampened a little by the water stem of the dragon. There will be a compacting of the earth and the moisture will not be able to penetrate.Water related events will sit on top of the ground. In the month of July expect to see a hardening of political attitudes.

Season of Metal

August - October is the season of metal. The dragon is productive in this season – he can help produce metal. Metal can represent wisdom and wise men (and women) coming together, to help solve world problems. At its worse it can mean that aggressive attitudes are entrenched with an unwillingness to give ground, attachment to personal world views. By the month of October we have yang metal sitting over the dog. Metal is very strong, being nurtured by the earth - they all serve to feed the water of the year leading to water related events.The dog clashes with the dragon. Whatever water related events there are the water will be polluted - thus carrying disease.

Season of Water

Nov – January 2013 is the season of water. The water will be overwhelming. This is the time when the water events (that many others are talking about) will take place. In the northern hemisphere you will see flooding, water coming from above and water coming from below, very soggy, perhaps the rotting of crops which over winter. In the Southern Hemisphere, there might be severe damage to crops from unseasonal rains and flooding events. The water will overwhelm the earth. Rivers will flood their banks, dams might burst, and landslides or landslips may well occur. The water will also be coming from below. Not a good time to by caving or mining at all.

The clashes

The dragon clashes with the dog. This means those of you who are born in the year of the dog or have a dog in an unprotected place in either your natal chart or your luck pillars might find it a bit of a strain as the wheel turns to focus into this stream of energy. Both the dragon and the dog are earth signs. The dragon has wood and water buried in it, the dog has fire and metal buried in it. They are both yang – when they clash they can actually break open the store house of wealth – so, even though there is a clash it can be positive for you. This depends on your personal chart as to how it plays out for you.

There is a secondary clash with the rooster and the rabbit. If you have these signs in your chart, again, they have to be unprotected or exposed and favourable to you for it to bring any difficulties. Sometimes clashes are just what we need to release potential.

Some Masters in Asia recommend that people wear pendants of the animal that takes away the clash. If you are looking to source those then you can get a range from Master Raymond Lo's website.

When you come into an unprotected clash it is a time for you to take care – to take a vacation or do low risk activities. Everyone should take time to go on retreat, to take time to reflect and plan – let the clash times be set aside for these activities. If you do not spend any time doing these things how do you know where you are going? Not the road most traveled but the road most stumbled upon!

Do not disturb - Tai Sui, Sui Po

The Tai Sui is also known as the Grand Duke of Jupiter. It is the direction where there is the greatest focus of cosmic forces. This year it is the direction of the dragon or the first 3rd of the south easterly sector.

Directly opposite the Grand Duke is the Sui Po or the clash direction. It is the direction of the dog – it is the exit point of all the sharp and glaring energy of the grand duke. This is the first 3rd of the north west sector.

These are areas which we do not disturb in 2012. Disturbance means turning soil for greater that 1 day, knocking things down, building things up. Even building a chicken coop, as it would take more than a day would be regarded as a violation. If you are NOT residing in the property then it is not a violation. If, your neighbour violates this area (relative to your main doors) it can create a great disturbance for you.

One of my clients quite some few years ago suffered a very significant event when his car, which had been parked at the top of his drive on a more than moderate slope, slipped the hand brake and careered into his rental house doing serious damage to the vehicle and the house. This also resulted in difficulties with the insurance company. That year there was a violation of the yearly energy because of a long and noisy renovation that his neighbour was making across the road. Of course, this was the year that they called me in – to try to decode what and why this strange event had occurred.

The combinations

The blessings fall to the other water team members – the monkey and the rat. If these figure in your chart, and water is important to you then this is a dream year for you. How the water plays out in your chart will determine how well you can use it – for some it will bring wealth, for others it will bring power, for others resource and for others output. Each of these is determined by your day master - that is the energy which governs you, your sun sign in western astrology. The benefits will flow according to the productive and the controlling cycles.

The dragon also has a favourable relationship with the rooster. Yes it is both a negative and a positive relationship – it depends what it is teamed with as to whether it is beneficial for you or not.

The annual flying stars

The annual stars fly in a particular path – they are on a 9 year cycle and bring grace and good fortune or can bring challenges. All nine of the stars will impact each and every building you live and work in. When the sickness 5 or 2 strikes the door of your home or business you will find illness comes knocking - things that linger and wont go away.

If it flies to the door of your business, or a major expanse of glass then you will find that most of the staff will come down with the regular illnesses, but they will linger for longer periods of time - very difficult to shake off. It will roll through the business. You can take precautions and, of course, you can invite a well trained feng shui consultant to look at your business to deflect this energy - this is another reason for people coming to me – the year that the 5 or 2 are featured at their door. If it is good enough for Virgin then it is good enough for you.

Sneak Peek

As I am doing 2nd monthly newsletters now I will give you a quick summary of the first 2 months of The Water Dragon year.

February 2012

Is yang water sitting over yang wood.

Water feeds wood. Then it interacts with the dragon.

The water of the stem of the year matches the stem of the month that means that water is very strong. It flows out and washes away the wood and leaves the earth to hold the water. There might be some water related events this month but not as significant as the end of the year. Watch out for exposure to water born diseases if you are vulnerable, or being over-run by your emotions.

March 2012

We will see yin wood sitting over the rabbit. They are both yin wood - the water is moderated as it flows out to feed the wood and the wood is strong enough to control the earth.

The days and hours of the tiger will bring a very interesting energy - depends on your chart if you can use it.

If you can't then take care of your liver and gallbladder, do not expose the back of your neck to winds and chills and ensure that you manage your temper!

There is an attempt at subversion going on between the rat and the ox but it comes to nothing because of the rabbit. He is in his dying hours but still has a little oomph left in him.

Here in the southern hemisphere it is a little easier to feel the movement in the universal qi flows as we are in the full flight of summer when it is easier to maintain optimism and to feel the power of the sun warming our bones and for most of us our hearts.

This is the last month of the rabbit year and we will see the rabbit's influence fading and the energy of the dragon starting to rise up.

We are coming close to the end of the calendar month and will soon be shifting to the month of the rat.
