2012 - Year of the Water Dragon

Exit Rabbit

Well aren't we all so glad that we can see the back of that rabbit!

Did you notice how many sex scandals (valid or invalid - proved or unproved) there were in 2011 - typical of the rabbit - things hidden are revealed. Things buried come to the surface including the push for democracy. Unfortunately I do not think we know what is real that sits underneath these world events. Perhaps in the year of the dragon where things are much more out in the open, some of the world wide political upheavals will be seen for what they are.

Enter Dragon

Dragons are inspiring, awesome, committed, engaging, lively with a large energy resource. They will usually see off all competitors as they are highly competitive and like to be noticed.

They can be thoughtful and generous friends and companions but can become frustrated with others when they are not up to speed.

Dragons are regarded as lucky - but traditionally Chinese men feared Dragon and Tiger ladies (probably because they know their own minds and would be more inclined to rebel against old fashioned strictures).

The Water

Water is the communicator. It seeks to fill in spaces, it seeks the lowest ground and fills spaces easily. It is the stuff that sustains life in utero, in the cellular structure and allows cells to communicate with each other.

It is about communication, transport, wisdom, philosophy, teaching and deep reflection. 

The Cycle

Every year one of the heavenly stems and one of the earthly branches come together to form the dominant energy for the year. 2012 is the year when water (stem) meets dragon (earth). They are yang water and yang earth. The dragon has some surprises hidden below the surface. They cycle together in a 60 year / monthly /daily / double hourly cycles.

2012 will see the repetition of the same cycle we saw in 1952. We can look to history to work out what we could see in 2012. I am not going to look at the historical scene - we can learn things from it but we can also create our own reality so lets look at what the various seasons might bring us. This is very important as the dragon sits between seasons so will influence or be influenced by the season it finds itself in.

I will talk on the podcast about several of these people - their characteristics are VERY consistent with the passion and commitment of dragons.

Current Projects

I have 5 fabulous projects underway, doing what I absolutely love - working with wonderful clients, talented architects and building homes which have as their major focus sustainability and energy neutral or reduced energy footprints. One of those projects is at Lauderdale, one is at Huonville, one is South Arm and one is a renovation at South Hobart.

My Lauderdale clients are quite happy for us to document the process so I will be posting links to their project called Asante.

The other project will probably be at Taroona but it is several years off, we are just in the chatting and what if stage - the dream forming stage.

The Podcast

The podcast will add another dimension to the annual newsletter. I will be interviewed by an American woman with whom I have had a long correspondence. She is a professional TV host and will add a bit of fun and pzazz to this year's offering.

I will explore the characteristics of the dragon and the water sitting over the earth.

I will then examine the charts of Nicholas Sarkozy; Angela Merkel; Barack Obama; Julia Gillard (for a little local flavour). I will then look at the charts of two famous Water Dragons - Steven Seagal and Douglas Adams.

The seasons

Season of Wood

Feb – April is the season of wood. In the season of wood the dragon is at home. He is the end point of the season of wood, wood is therefore prosperous. There is water buried in the dragon, so the wood thrives but it is a little damp. The month of April will be warmer. In the northern hemisphere there will be a cold damp spring with real warmth only revealing itself in April. In the southern hemisphere there will be a sudden return of heat, just when we think winter is coming upon us.

Season of Fire

May – July is the season of fire. The dragon is at his most productive in the season of fire. He receives chi from the season of fire. The stems are wood and fire in this season and some hidden water helps the wood grow, the ardour of the fire is dampened a little by the water stem of the dragon. There will be a compacting of the earth and the moisture will not be able to penetrate.Water related events will sit on top of the ground. In the month of July expect to see a hardening of political attitudes.

Season of Metal

August - October is the season of metal. The dragon is productive in this season – he can help produce metal. Metal can represent wisdom and wise men (and women) coming together, to help solve world problems. At its worse it can mean that aggressive attitudes are entrenched with an unwillingness to give ground, attachment to personal world views. By the month of October we have yang metal sitting over the dog. Metal is very strong, being nurtured by the earth - they all serve to feed the water of the year leading to water related events.The dog clashes with the dragon. Whatever water related events there are the water will be polluted - thus carrying disease.

Season of Water

Nov – January 2013 is the season of water. The water will be overwhelming. This is the time when the water events (that many others are talking about) will take place. In the northern hemisphere you will see flooding, water coming from above and water coming from below, very soggy, perhaps the rotting of crops which over winter. In the Southern Hemisphere, there might be severe damage to crops from unseasonal rains and flooding events. The water will overwhelm the earth. Rivers will flood their banks, dams might burst, and landslides or landslips may well occur. The water will also be coming from below. Not a good time to by caving or mining at all.

The clashes

The dragon clashes with the dog. This means those of you who are born in the year of the dog or have a dog in an unprotected place in either your natal chart or your luck pillars might find it a bit of a strain as the wheel turns to focus into this stream of energy. Both the dragon and the dog are earth signs. The dragon has wood and water buried in it, the dog has fire and metal buried in it. They are both yang – when they clash they can actually break open the store house of wealth – so, even though there is a clash it can be positive for you. This depends on your personal chart as to how it plays out for you.

There is a secondary clash with the rooster and the rabbit. If you have these signs in your chart, again, they have to be unprotected  or exposed and favourable to you for it to bring any difficulties. Sometimes clashes are just what we need to release potential.

Some Masters in Asia recommend that people wear pendants of the animal that takes away the clash. If you are looking to source those then you can get a range from Master Raymond Lo's website.

When you come into an unprotected clash it is a time for you to take care – to take a vacation or do low risk activities. Everyone should take time to go on retreat, to take time to reflect and plan – let the clash times be set aside for these activities. If you do not spend any time doing these things how do you know where you are going? Not the road most traveled but the road most stumbled upon!

Do not disturb - Tai Sui, Sui Po

The Tai Sui is also known as the Grand Duke of Jupiter. It is the direction where there is the greatest focus of cosmic forces. This year it is the direction of the dragon or the first 3rd of the south easterly sector.

Directly opposite the Grand Duke is the Sui Po or the clash direction. It is the direction of the dog – it is the exit point of all the sharp and glaring energy of the grand duke. This is the first 3rd of the north west sector.

These are areas which we do not disturb in 2012. Disturbance means turning soil for greater that 1 day, knocking things down, building things up. Even building a chicken coop, as it would take more than a day would be regarded as a violation. If you are NOT residing in the property then it is not a violation. If, your neighbour violates this area (relative to your main doors) it can create a great disturbance for you.

One of my clients quite some few years ago suffered a very significant event when his car, which had been parked at the top of his drive on a more than moderate slope, slipped the hand brake and careered into his rental house doing serious damage to the vehicle and the house. This also resulted in difficulties with the insurance company. That year there was a violation of the yearly energy because of a long and noisy renovation that his neighbour was making across the road. Of course, this was the year that they called me in – to try to decode what and why this strange event had occurred.

The combinations

The blessings fall to the other water team members – the monkey and the rat. If these figure in your chart, and water is important to you then this is a dream year for you. How the water plays out in your chart will determine how well you can use it – for some it will bring wealth, for others it will bring power, for others resource and for others output. Each of these is determined by your day master - that is the energy which governs you, your sun sign in western astrology. The benefits will flow according to the productive and the controlling cycles.

The dragon also has a favourable relationship with the rooster. Yes it is both a negative and a positive relationship – it depends what it is teamed with as to whether it is beneficial for you or not.

The annual flying stars

The annual stars fly in a particular path – they are on a 9 year cycle and bring grace and good fortune or can bring challenges. All nine of the stars will impact each and every building you live and work in. When the sickness 5 or 2 strikes the door of your home or business you will find illness comes knocking - things that linger and wont go away.

If it flies to the door of your business, or a major expanse of glass then you will find that most of the staff will come down with the regular illnesses, but they will linger for longer periods of time - very difficult to shake off. It will roll through the business. You can take precautions and, of course, you can invite a well trained feng shui consultant to look at your business to deflect this energy - this is another reason for people coming to me – the year that the 5 or 2 are featured at their door. If it is good enough for Virgin then it is good enough for you.

Sneak Peek

As I am doing 2nd monthly newsletters now I will give you a quick summary of the first 2 months of The Water Dragon year.

February 2012

Is yang water sitting over yang wood.

Water feeds wood. Then it interacts with the dragon.

The water of the stem of the year matches the stem of the month that means that water is very strong. It flows out and washes away the wood and leaves the earth to hold the water. There might be some water related events this month but not as significant as the end of the year. Watch out for exposure to water born diseases if you are vulnerable, or being over-run by your emotions.

March 2012

We will see yin wood sitting over the rabbit. They are both yin wood - the water is moderated as it flows out to feed the wood and the wood is strong enough to control the earth.

The days and hours of the tiger will bring a very interesting energy - depends on your chart if you can use it.

If you can't then take care of your liver and gallbladder, do not expose the back of your neck to winds and chills and ensure that you manage your temper!
